on the road..

I’m very picky about what photos I choose to share..  travel photos in particular..

I typically set out on excursions around iceland and return with 2, 3 photos that I find good enough for sharing on flickr or adding to my website. These two , for instance, were the result of a middle-of-the-night trip to Jökulsárlón (6 hour drive from my home) last July, where my goal was to arrive at sun-up (around 4:15 am) and have the place to myself (which i succeeded in doing)

These next are outtakes from the same trip,  and while they’re not up to my usual standards, seen together they give a nice idea of the scenery one may encounter when driving around Iceland. (all but the last one, of the horses, are taken at night/very early morning)

I have loads of outtakes like this from various trips, more later..

A few places i defintely recommend visiting, in no particular order (google will help you find them, i’m sure):

Snæfellsnes, Jökulsárlón, Dettifoss, Gullfoss, Goðafoss, Þingvellir, Vestfirðir (the West-Fjords), Austfirðir (the east coast), Þórsmörk, Landmannalaugar.

These are very nice scenes, to someone that does not have these landscapes in their backyard even your “rejects” are wonderful. Could you name some good photographic spots to visit when in Iceland?

I visited Iceland for just a couple of days, and our family drove to Snæfellsnes, Gullfoss, and Þingvellir (of those you mentioned). Your country is the most spectacular, “otherworldly” place I’ve ever seen… simply beautiful!

Hi,
you really need to geotag your landscape pictures! I am seriously thinking about doing a phototrip to iceland in a year or two. The country is so gorgeous!

You made me discover Iceland a few years ago… (To be honest, I didn’t even know what/where it was)

I continued exploring with Flickr and books and your updates. And then last summer I took all my money and got there for a month. I did the south, north and middle (quickly) but not west/east (next time).
It was totally worth it, even in the (very) wet camping site at Skaftafell. People, landscape, culture, everything was wonderful.

Now all I want is to go back for as long as I can. I’m sure it’s impossible to get bored :)

I just wanted to let you know how grateful I am. Your work is fantastic :)

LOL @ “not up to my usual standards.” You’re way too hard on yourself! I would love to have taken any of those shots.

After visiting Gullfoss, Þingvellir, Þórsmörk, and Vik, my friends and I did the drive to Snæfellsnes, and it was one of the most memorable trips I’ve ever taken. I’m sorry that all I had was a little point-and-shoot camera then. I’m hoping to return (several times!) so that I can see more, and try an do photographic justice to your beautiful and awe-inspiring land.

Excellent. I love your compositional choice in lenses. You make me want to get out on the road. Thank you.

hey - that one of the stones: fjorugrjot - isn’t too shabby. methinks you’ll be heading back to do that location again!

I had the luck to visit Iceland for a month last summer and loved it. From my experience the dwelers are as beautiful as the landscape: friendly and wellcoming. I wish I had had more time to travel at a slower pace, and more knowledge of how to do things. For example: I was at Jökulsárlón during the day and it was packed with people. Imanaged to get a couple of decent shot, but having that magic place for yourself must be an incredible experience.
Everyone, visit Iceland if you can, you won’t be disapointed.

Wow beautiful photos!!! I hope I have a chance to visit Iceland someday.

The cow is really good and I also agree that the large pebbles ont the beach is great.

Out takes? You sure? :)

Very nice, I too wish to vist Iceland, all the shows on the Travel Channel, and your beautiful photography really put it up at the top of my travel list.

I’m not a huge fan of landscape shots, but I think I’d get blown away by some of the Icelandic scenes.
I might have to sell all my cameras to help pay for a trip there, though, but I’m seriously considering it.

a trip to iceland would be a completely surreal dream come true.
